Solafina collections are created to incorporate use of one or more of the following design elements:
Natural & Sustainable Fibers
Among the natural fibers used are raw cotton, linen, hemp, wool, ramie, silk, bamboo and jute. Most of these fibers are grown without the need for pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Natural & sustainable fibers are easily grown, harvested with minimal environmental impact, and possess a rapid growth cycle of typically 3-5 months.
Recycled Fibers
Utilizing both post-consumer and post-industrial waste streams, we specify re-cycled fibers sourced from cotton processing, soda bottle reclamation and textile waste reclaimed from manufacturing processes of spinning and weaving.
Earth-Friendly Color
While many Solafina fabrics derive their color and hue from the unique and inherent tones of natural fiber, some are enhanced by the addition of pigment. When color is needed, our designers specify the use of low-impact, reduced or metal-free dye components to assure minimal effect on our environment and water resources.
Fabric Finishing
Most Solafina fabrics are sold in Ecru or loomstate form with no post treatment required or necessary. This can be done since we avoid use of chemical oversprays or additives to enhance spinning or weaving performance. When finishing is needed we use only pure water and mild soap to achieve desired hand and appearance. When fabrics require backing, we use only natural latex and no synthetic components.
Performance
All Solafina fabrics are extensively tested to assure compliance with established industry standards. The majority of our constructions meet or exceed heavy duty abrasion performance classification with many suitable for contract application.
